تتطرق هذه الورشة إلى الاستخدامات التاريخية المختلفة لمصطلح “التعبير الحر.” وهو مصطلح تم تداوله بشكل واسع في تعليم الفنون، سوف تتناول الورشة السياقات المختلفة التي أدت إلى ظهور وتطور المصطلح وما يمكن أن نستخلصه من ذلك في وقتنا الحالي وممارسات تعليم الفنون المتداولة الآن. ربما يحمل مصطلح “التعبير الحر” في تعليم الفنون تعقيدات عدة لعلاقته الوطيدة في وقت ما بحركات مغايرة في تعليم الفنون. ولكن، مع الوقت، أصبح ايضاً منهجاً يحيد الفنون عن سياقاتها الاجتماعية الأوسع، ويحميها في عزلتها عما يحيط بها من علاقات ثقافية وإجتماعية. فهو مصطلح يطرح رؤية للفنون تعزز من فكرة الفن كتعبير شخصي، فردي. من خلال الورشة سوف نطرح أسئلة عن علاقة “التعبير الحر” وما يطرحه من رؤية لتعليم الفنون بأفكار اكبر حول المواطنة، الاستشراقية، النيوليبرالية وما تطرحه من صورة لل”فنان” و”الابداع” في محاولة لتفكيك المصطلح وفهم أبعاده.
تعتمد هذه الورشة جزئياً على مواد تم تجميعها لورشة سابقة أقيمت بالتعاون مع حسين الحاج، وكارمن مورش، وكيتو ديريك وينترجريين، وايما فولوكاو فانمبفا.

اندريا طال هي المديرة الفنية لمركز الصورة المعاصرة وتهتم بإعادة التفكير في الطرق المتبعة لتعليم الفنون في سياقات الفن المعاصر.
This workshop looks at different historical contexts in which the concept of “Free Expression” became widely used in art education to ask how these early adaptations of the concept resonate in current local practices. It proposes a look at “Free Expression” as a contradictory concept. While associated initially with alternative movements in art education, it arguably also paved the way for an understanding of art that is deeply individualistic and that it needs to be “protected” from surrounding influences. This workshop intends to discuss the relationship between “Free Expression” and notions of citizenship and class, the dominance of the west, neoliberal economies and ideas about the “artist” and “creativity” they produce.
The workshop is partially based on material collected for a previous workshop developed in collaboration with Hussein El-Hajj, Carmen Mörsch, Kitto Derrick Wintergreen and Emma Wolukau-Wanambwa.
